CULLEN TO THE SENS
The Ottawa Senators acquired center Matt Cullen from the Carolina Hurricanes for defenseman Alexandre Picard and a second-round draft pick in 2010.
What does it give the Ottawa Senators
The Sens add more center depth with the addition of Cullen, who slides in nicely behind Jason Spezza and Mike Fisher. This will enable the Sens to use one of Chris Kelly or Peter Regin on the wing full-time. Cullen should also see power-play time in Ottawa.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes are expected to be big sellers between now and the trading deadline on March 3, and moving Cullen is but one step. Picard has struggled this season in Ottawa, but he may have better luck in Carolina. The key to the deal, however, is the draft pick.
