CAPS ACQUIRE JOE CORVO

The Washington Capitals acquired defenseman Joe Corvo from the Carolina Hurricanes for defenseman Brian Pothier, winger Oskar Osala and a second-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Washington Capitals
Corvo is a healthier, more offensive-minded version of Pothier. He'll likely be used on the second power-play unit in Washington and could give Mike Green a breather now and then. He's not great defensively, though, so his acquisition is a little curious at this time.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Pothier is perhaps a depth acquisition without much of a future in Carolina, since he's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Osala is a big winger with upside, so he could be the main component coming back to Carolina in this trade. If not, it'll be the second rounder that is key. Since Corvo was a budding UFA as well, the 'Canes did very well here.
