SHARKS ADD WHITE
The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Ian White from the Carolina Hurricanes for a second-round draft pick in 2012.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks moved Derek Joslin to Carolina earlier, but land a better puck-mover with more experience at the NHL level in White. He didn't play well in Carolina, and also struggled a bit this season with Calgary. However, White is capable of doing well for the Sharks. His acquisition gives them three capable right-handed puck movers (along with Dan Boyle and Jason Demers). Surrendering only a second rounder in '12 to land White seems like a solid deal for Sharks GM Doug Wilson.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
White quickly fell out of favor in Raleigh, so GM Jim Rutherford didn't quite get full value for his services. Still, he did receive Joslin in the previous deal between the two clubs, so that plus a future second rounder is a decent return. In the short term, however, the 'Canes blueline takes a small hit (unless Rutherford makes another move before the Feb 28 deadline).
