THRASHERS, KINGS TRADE WINGERS

The Atlanta Thrashers acquired left-winger Kip Brennan from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for left-winger Jeff Cowan.

What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
An enigma with an upside. Brennan can play both defense and wing, and has plenty of size and strength. He's also four years younger than Cowan (23), and could very well be another one of the inexpensive reclamation projects Atlanta GM Don Waddell has made his trademark. Brennan hasn't played much this year, but is likely part of Atlanta's future considering they gave up a solid player to get him.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
An maturing, if not star-caliber power forward to help out for the playoff run. Cowan is a tough two-way player who can help fill in for all the injured scorers the Kings are missing. He'll play on one of the team's top three lines and provide the grit the team only seems to get from Sean Avery. At 27, Cowan is having his best NHL year by far.
