NORSTROM TO STARS IN BLOCKBUSTER

The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Mattias Norstrom, forward Konstantin Pushkarev, a third- and a fourth-round draft pick in 2007 from the Los Angeles Kings for defenseman Jaroslav Modry, defenseman Johan Fransson, a second- and a third-round draf

What does it give the Dallas Stars
The former Kings captain is a monster acquisition for the Stars. He'll instantly play among the team's top four blueliners, most likely with Philippe Boucher--his former partner with the Kings. Norstrom becomes the Stars' best shutdown defenseman right away. Pushkarev has potential, but probably won't get a lot of ice time down the stretch. GM Doug Armstrong did well to recuperate a few other assets for the future with this trade.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
Fransson is a good defense prospect, which was something the Kings needed. Modry is back in L.A., the site of his best days in the NHL. Adding a first rounder in 2008 is huge, since it's expected to be a slightly better draft than the 2007 selection process. Overall, the Kings added a lot of quality in this deal, but Norstrom will definitely be missed. Losing Pushkarev is a little curious, however.
