MODRY TO PHILLY

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Jaroslav Modry from the Los Angeles Kings for a third-round draft pick in 2008.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have been in freefall lately, and injuries to the defense corps have not helped matters. Modry gives them a decent veteran to help out as a short-term fix but they probably need more in order to get back into the thick of the postseason race in the East. Modry is a start, however.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings had several potential UFA's along the blueline, so moving one of them for a third rounder is a solid value move. They may also deal Rob Blake and Brad Stuart in the coming days, so clearly the plan is to rebuild the Kings blueline. Modry wasn't going to help with the rebuilding plan, so the club did the right thing in letting him go.
