CAMMALLERI TO CALGARY IN 3-WAY

In a three-way trade, the Calgary Flames acquired winger Mike Cammalleri from the Los Angeles Kings for a first-round draft pick in 2008 (17th overall). The Kings then sent the 17th overall pick plus their first-round draft pick in 2008 (28th overall)

What does it give the Calgary Flames
In Cammalleri, the Flames land a good goal-scoring winger who can play either side. He should get first crack at playing on the first line with captain Jarome Iginla and center Daymond Langkow--who is expected to re-sign with Calgary soon. Cammalleri has better goal-scoring ability than the man he's replacing, Alex Tanguay.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings were having trouble locking Cammalleri up to a long-term contract, and feared losing him after the 2008-09 campaign as an unrestricted free agent. So, they sent him to Calgary, and then used two picks to get the No. 12 overall pick to select defensive defenseman Colten Teubert--after trading down one spot with Buffalo. All told, the Kings opened up cap space and secured their future blueline with this move.

What does it give the
The Ducks moved down early, and then wound up selecting defenseman Jake Gardiner with their first pick. He's a nice asset for the future, since the team is getting old along the blueline. They then traded their second No. 1 pick to Phoenix for additional picks. Anaheim clearly didn't have any one player in mind when they had the 12th pick overall, so they did well to stockpile picks.
