TUKONEN FOR CLUNE

The Dallas Stars acquired winger Lauri Tukonen from the Los Angeles Kings for winger Richard Clune.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
This is a bit of a risky pickup by the Stars, but it may also prove to be a major heist sometime down the road. Tukonen has star-level talent, and while he has been spinning his wheels a little over the past few seasons in Manchester, he was good enough to be the No.11 overall pick of the 2004 NHL Draft. The Kings were obviously frustrated that he didn't show a lot of progress in three AHL campaigns, but he's a big guy and sometimes it takes lanky young prospects longer to develop. Dallas could afford to roll the dice at the price of a player (Clune) who was expendable thanks to a deep crop of young forwards.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
Clune doesn't flash as much raw talent as Tukonen but he may be more ready to contribute at the NHL level, making him a nice fit for the young Kings. L.A. needs tough, hungry forwards like Clune who can help them compete soon and it's clear the team had grown impatient with waiting for the talented Tukonen to take the next step.
