LABARBERA HEADS TO CANUCKS
The Vancouver Canucks acquired goaltender Jason LaBarbera from the Los Angeles Kings for a seventh-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks will not get franchise goaltender Roberto Luongo back for another month, so the club decided to add a little more depth in LaBarbera. He will likely split the duties with rookie Cory Schneider until Luongo returns, since current backup Curtis Sanford is now out indefinitely due to a groin issue.
What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings gave LaBarbera every opportunity to become the No. 1 man in L.A. this season, but he wasn't up to the task. He was outplayed by Swede Erik Ersberg after a quick start to the regular season, and lately had seen rookie Jonathan Quick take over the reigns. With more goalie prospects on the way, namely Jonathan Bernier, the Kings had no place for LaBarbera in their future plans.
