QUINTAL TO LA

The Los Angeles Kings acquired defenseman Stephane Quintal from the Montreal Canadiens for future considerations.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
In Quintal, the Kings add more veteran savvy, leadership and size along the blueline. He'll probably fill the role of No. 6 or 7 defenseman in L.A. The 2004-05 may be Quintal's last in the NHL, though he may find a second wind out West. The Kings must now sign Quintal, who is still scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
Don't expect the Habs to get a big return for Quintal's services. They'll likely settle for a late draft pick, since Montreal had no intention of re-signing the veteran blueliner. Quintal's spot in the regular lineup will now go to Mike Komisarek, while the likes of Ron Hainsey and Francois Beauchemin will also move up the depth chart.
