HUET TO WASHINGTON
The Washington Capitals acquired goaltender Cristobal Huet from the Montreal Canadiens for a second-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Washington Capitals
The Capitals needed a more reliable starter in goal, after the back-and-forth seesaw between Olaf Kolzig and Brent Johnson. Huet has had trouble establishing himself as a clear-cut No. 1 man in Montreal, but he has been an outstanding statistical goalie in recent years. He should stabilize the crease area in D.C.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
The main decision here is that the Canadiens are now clearly Carey Price's team. They've decided that the future is now. Huet was headed for unrestricted free agency, so adding a second-round asset is good value.
