BLUES LAND HALAK

The St. Louis Blues acquired goaltender Jaroslav Halak from the Montreal Canadiens for center Lars Eller and winger Ian Schultz.

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
The Blues were one of the rare NHL clubs unsure about their 2010-11 goaltending situation, so landing Halak was a solid move. This will likely mean unrestricted free agent Chris Mason won't re-sign, as Halak will become the immediate starter--backed up by veteran Ty Conklin.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
The Habs land two things they lack: A promising scoring center and size. Eller may get a chance to play in Montreal right away, while big Schultz is more of a long-term prospect. Habs GM Pierre Gauthier did well to land two prospects for one of his un-signed goalies, but did he trade the right one?
