JACKETS LAND WISNIEWSKI'S RIGHTS

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired defenseman James Wisniewski from the Montreal Canadiens for a seventh-round draft pick in 2012 and future considerations.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Jackets crave more offense from the blueline, and landing Wisniewski would go a long way towards shoring that element of their game up. First, they will need to sign the offensive rearguard. Their chances of doing just that may not be more than 50/50 at this point, but it is worth the gamble.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens committed to re-signing veteran blueliner Andrei Markov earlier in the off-season, which made Wisniewski the likely odd man out. They'll gladly accept a seventh rounder, which could turn into a fifth rounder if the Jackets are able to re-sign Wisniewski.
