FRIESEN TO WASHINGTON

The Washington Capitals acquired left wing Jeff Friesen from the New Jersey Devils for a conditional draft pick in 2006.

What does it give the Washington Capitals
A predictable move for both clubs. In Washington's case, they needed to add some salary because they were dangerously close to the salary floor. Friesen figures to play a lot on left wing behind Alexander Ovechkin and will see a ton of power play time. Simply put, this move to Washington could salvage his fading career.

What does it give the New Jersey Devils
The Devils were over the cap, as opposed to the Caps being below the floor, so dealing away Friesen was expected. The club will need a short-term replacement for Friesen, because eventually they'll get Czech veteran Patrik Elias back from the injured list.
