MAPLE LEAFS ADD STECKEL

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired center David Steckel from the New Jersey Devils for a fourth-round draft pick in 2012.

What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs have injury issues at center at this early stage of the season, so Steckel could be viewed as a short-term fix. However, he's also very good in the face-off circle and adds badly needed size down the middle for Toronto. He won't provide offense but is mainly a fourth liner anyway.

What does it give the New Jersey Devils
The Devils curiously shipped Steckel out before the start of the regular season, despite the fact No. 1 center Travis Zajac is injured and won't be back for a while. The Devils couldn't turn down a fourth-round draft pick in exchange for a fourth liner, however. This move helps rookie C Adam Henrique.
