NOKELAINEN FOR WALTER

The Boston Bruins acquired center Petteri Nokelainen from the New York Islanders for center Ben Walter and a conditional second-round draft pick in 2009.

What does it give the Boston Bruins
Obviously, Nokelainen is viewed as the better long-term prospect--since the B's had to include a future second rounder in order to pull the deal off. However, the Finnish center has been beset by injury so far in his young career. Still only 21, Nokelainen could become a fixture in Beantown over time. For now, he's a long shot to make the big club in training camp.

What does it give the New York Islanders
Walter is two years older than Nokelainen but doesn't own the latter's scoring upside. That said, he stands a better chance of breaking camp with the Islanders this season. Also, Walter's game is more in the mold of head coach Ted Nolan. That said, the Islanders may regret giving up on Nokelainen's upside this quickly.
