BOLTS REEL IN ROLOSON

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired goaltender Dwayne Roloson from the New York Islanders for defenseman Ty Wishart.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
Roloson adds a quality veteran hand to the goaltending mix in Tampa. Despite his age (41), he should push incumbent tandem Dan Ellis and the soon-to-return Mike Smith for starts on the contending Lightning. Tampa provides a lot of offensive support, so Roloson's overall numbers could jump if he can get regular starts going forward. He's an unrestricted free agent following this season, and is a nice risk for the suddenly-respectable Bolts. His arrival means the recently-hot Cedrick Desjardins heads back to the AHL.

What does it give the New York Islanders
Wishart is a big, strong rearguard with the talent to possibly be an above-average NHL regular eventually. That said, he still has some developing to do before he's ready for prime time, and will continue to toil in the AHL for now. Moving Roloson suggests the Isles are confident No. 1 goalie Rick DiPietro is ready to handle a more regular workload despite lingering knee problems. The move also makes Nathan Lawson a suddenly more interesting goalie, as he should take over primary backup duties on Long Island and could play regularly if (when?) DiPietro gets injured again.
