GERVAIS MOVES TO TAMPA BAY

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired defenseman Bruno Gervais from the New York Islanders for future considerations.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
The Bolts lack puck-moving defensemen, and they lack right-shooting defensemen. Gervais could be both for them, though he has underachieved at the NHL level. For now, he'll add depth as a No. 6 or 7 blueliner for Guy Boucher's squad, but there's still some upside here.

What does it give the New York Islanders
The Islanders no longer had much use for Gervais, who had been surpassed by a few others on their blueline depth chart in recent years. The future considerations involved in this deal is likely to be a late-round draft pick or marginal prospect. In the end, this move was designed to clear a contract from the books and give Gervais a new opportunity.
