FLAMES ADD SIMON
The Calgary Flames acquired left wing Chris Simon and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2004 from the New York Rangers for center Blair Betts, goaltender Jamie McLennan and winger Greg Moore.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
Simon is an excellent addition to the Flames roster, since he provides both toughness and secondary scoring. His presence on either the second or third line gives coach/GM Darryl Sutter more options, since he won't have to dress tough guy Krzysztof Oliwa every night. Simon may wind up next to youngsters Matthew Lombardi and Chuck Kobasew.
What does it give the New York Rangers
The Rangers continue their unloading of talent but this time they focused on NHL talent in return. Betts should play an important role with the Blueshirts, as he'll likely step into a two-way center role next season. McLennan should serve as the backup to Mike Dunham for the rest of the season, while Moore is an intriguing winger prospect out of the University of Maine.
