RUSSELL TO MONTREAL

The Montreal Canadiens acquired center Ryan Russell from the New York Rangers for a seventh-round draft pick in 2007.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
Unable to come to terms with the Rangers, Russell quickly signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Habs after the deal was completed. He'll probably spend the 2007-08 campaign with Hamilton (AHL).

What does it give the New York Rangers
The Rangers didn't feel Russell was worth his asking price, so they decided to ship him to Montreal just prior to the CHL signing deadline on June 1. In doing so, the Blueshirts got equal value for the 2005 seventh rounder.
