HOLLWEG TO TORONTO

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired forward Ryan Hollweg from the New York Rangers for a fifth-round draft pick in 2009.

What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
It's a little surprising that the Leafs would surrender a fifth-round draft pick in a deep draft (2009) for a player that may have been had off waivers following training camp, since Hollweg probably had no spot on the Rangers roster any longer. That said, Hollweg's rambunctious style should come in handy now that the Leafs have parted ways with the likes of Darcy Tucker--though the addition of Jamal Mayers earlier may have been enough.

What does it give the New York Rangers
Consider this draft pick acquisition by the Rangers as somewhat of a freebie. Hollweg had lost his job to recent UFA acquisitions Aaron Voros and Pat Rissmiller, so the Blueshirts are happy to unload his contract. They will take a flyer on what is expected to be a very deep '09 selection process.
