BLUES GRAB LALIME

The St. Louis Blues acquired goaltender Patrick Lalime from the Ottawa Senators for a conditional fourth-round pick in 2005.

What does it give the St. Louis Blues
Draft weekend has been all about goaltending for the Blues, who now insert Lalime as the No. 1 man--to go along with recent prospect acquisitions Jason Bacashihua (trade) and Marek Schwarz (draft). Lalime is a slight upgrade over Chris Osgood, who will probably be let go in a cost-cutting move before July 1. Lalime needed a fresh start, after a rough postseason in Ottawa, but should help the Blues as a short-term solution.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
After dumping Radek Bonk for a draft pick, the Senators did the same thing with their starting netminder--in anticipation of signing veteran Dominik Hasek as an unrestricted free agent after July 1. Ottawa is clearly making room on the payroll to add more bodies, so expect them to be very active when the unrestricted free agent market opens for business.
