BOLTS ADD MESZAROS
The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired defenseman Andrej Meszaros from the Ottawa Senators for defensemen Filip Kuba and Alexandre Picard, plus a first-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
In Meszaros, the Lightning add another offensive defenseman to a roster that also recently added former Sharks blueliner {Matt Carle}. Meszaros figures to get first crack at quarterbacking what should be a vaunted Tampa Bay power play. He will also get first-pairing ice time in all likelihood. Meszaros will be one of the building blocks of the new Lightning regime.
What does it give the Ottawa Senators
Kuba adds veteran leadership to a revamped Senators blueline, while Picard replaces some (though not all) of Meszaros's upside, while the '09 first rounder originally belonged to the San Jose Sharks. Ottawa should be able to get a quality asset out of that pick, since next year's draft promises to be one of the best in years. Lastly, the Sens finally resolve this ugly contract dispute with Meszaros, so they can now focus on their upcoming training camp.
