FISHER LANDS IN NASHVILLE

The Nashville Predators acquired center Mike Fisher from the Ottawa Senators for a first-round draft pick in 2011 and a conditional draft pick in 2012.

What does it give the Nashville Predators
The Preds are making a statement with this move. Fisher adds another strong element to a structured outfit. He plays a hard game and is used to playing with a 'system' team, so the transition should be smooth. Since wife Carrie Underwood lives in Nashville, Fisher should feel comfortable immediately in his new surroundings. Nashville isn't usually a team that likes to give up early picks, but this was a good move this time around because they're contenders.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
Fisher's cap hit is for $4.2 million for the next two seasons after this one, so the Sens clearly were selling here. It's been a disastrous 2010-11 campaign for the Sens, so this move signifies the start of what could be a massive rebuilding project. Adding a second first-round pick in 2011 is a nice start, and they'll potentially receive another pick in this transaction.
