SENS SWAP KELLY TO BRUINS

The Boston Bruins acquired center Chris Kelly from the Ottawa Senators for a second-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Boston Bruins
The Bruins are essentially replacing the injured Marc Savard with the more defensive-oriented Kelly here. He'll probably take on the role of a more traditional third-line pivot in Beantown. This move could also mean less ice time down the stretch for rookie center Tyler Seguin. Losing the 2011 second rounder sends a message that Boston is in win-now mode. They still own two first rounders in 2011 (their own and Toronto's), however.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
After dumping Mike Fisher to Nashville earlier this week, the Sens this time ship out popular pivot Kelly. He is a bit expensive for what he provides offensively, but his versatility and game-to-game consistency will be missed. That said, the Sens are selling off assets right now, so GM Bryan Murray did well here to land another high draft pick. Coupled with the first rounder added in the Fisher deal, Murray now has two firsts and two seconds to help the rebuilding process along.
