DUCKS LAND RUUTU FROM OTTAWA

The Anaheim Ducks acquired winger Jarkko Ruutu from the Ottawa Senators for a sixth-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks appear poised to make a good run in the mega competitive Western Conference, so adding another feisty forward in Ruutu seems like a good idea. The Ducks didn't surrender much in return, which is also why this move looks good on them. Finnish veteran Ruutu may be a fit on Anaheim's second line alongside countrymen Saku Koivu and Teemu Selanne. Or, he'll play on the third or fourth line and drive opponents crazy with his agitating antics. Anaheim may now lead the league in shift disturbers, as Ruutu joins the likes of Maxim Lapierre and Corey Perry.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
The firesale continues in Ottawa, as Ruutu becomes the latest veteran to be shipped out of town. The return this time around (a sixth rounder in '11) isn't much, but the Senators are looking for a clean break and a completely fresh start. So, sometimes you have to take the best offer and move on. AHLers Colin Greening and Erik Condra were recalled recently, and they'll now likely get a longer look as bottom-six winger candidates.
