ROENICK TO LA

The Los Angeles Kings acquired forward Jeremy Roenick and a third-round draft pick in 2006 from the Philadelphia Flyers for future considerations.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings essentially did Flyers GM Bob Clarke a favor, since the latter was not going to be able to meet the salary cap AND sign all of his remaining restricted free agents. In return, the Kings landed a solid third-round pick (previously obtained from Nashville) and a solid veteran scorer in Roenick. While J.R. talks better than he plays these days, he's still capable of putting up good numbers. In Hollywood, look for Roenick to thrive with the spotlight squarely on him.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
Following the acquisition of Peter Forsberg, the Flyers no longer needed Roenick's services. Therefore, Clarke agreed to surrender a third rounder just so Kings GM Dave Taylor can take Roenick's salary off the books. Even if the future considerations in the deal turn out to be zero, having Forsberg around still makes this trade worthwhile from a Flyers perspective.
