The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Jussi Timonen from the Philadelphia Flyers for a conditional draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Dallas Stars
A depth defenseman who can log top-six minutes during the absence of Philippe Boucher, who underwent shoulder surgery last week. Timonen does not have a whole lot of upside but plays a sound all-around game that should be enough to do the trick for Dallas.
What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers have a handful of defensemen who could be called a No. 5 or 6 guy. In moving Timonen, they have cleared up some of the logjam and picked up an asset while doing so. In the end, the conditional pick is expected to be a seventh rounder.
