NISKALA TO TAMPA BAY
The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired defenseman Janne Niskala from the Philadelphia Flyers for a sixth-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
Niskala was dealt for the second time in less than a week, and he now adds another potential offensive blueliner to a Lightning squad littered with puck-movers. There is talk of dealing veteran Dan Boyle, so perhaps this deal is merely a prelude of more craziness from the new Bolts owners.
What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
For a player with zero NHL experience, Niskala certainly is popular. The Flyers added Niskala for enforcer Triston Grant and a seventh rounder, and now get a sixth rounder in return from Tampa Bay. So, from that perspective, Philly evened itself out. Still, it's a curious decision to acquire Niskala and then move him the following week.
