CARTER GOES TO COLUMBUS

The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired forward Jeff Carter from the Philadelphia Flyers for winger Jakub Voracek, a first-round draft pick in 2011 and a third-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
In Carter, the Jackets finally have a legitimate No. 1 center. They paid a steep price in assets, but the Jackets were looking for NHL-ready talent all along. It's time for Columbus to make a move up the standings, and Carter's production and size should help. He'll immediately step in as the team's No. 1 center, possibly playing alongside captain Rick Nash.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers decided to do away with both Carter and fellow pivot Mike Richards on the same day! Voracek is a good-looking winger with loads of untapped upside. The Flyers also land two good draft picks in this deal, including the No. 8 overall pick in the '11 draft. Expect more moving and shaking for GM Paul Holmgren. The Flyers are a little further away from a Stanley Cup title after this move, but it may only take a year to get right back into prime Cup contention.
