PANTHERS ADD VERSTEEG

The Florida Panthers acquired winger Kris Versteeg from the Philadelphia Flyers for a conditional second-round draft pick and third-round draft pick in 2012.

What does it give the Florida Panthers
In Versteeg, the Panthers land a winger with a lot of ties to several other new members of the Cats--namely Brian Campbell, Jack Skille and Tomas Kopecky. Versteeg will play a scoring role in South Florida, which is his best role on a hockey club--though he is quite versatile.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers needed to unload salary after spending more money on free agents, so dealing Versteeg makes a lot of sense. They get a second rounder in either 2012 or 2013, plus a second rounder. That's pretty solid asset management for GM Paul Holmgren. Versteeg wasn't a good fit in Philly.
