WINGS WELCOME CROSS

The Detroit Red Wings acquired defenseman Cory Cross from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a fourth-round draft pick in 2007.

What does it give the Detroit Red Wings
The Wings are already one of the best teams in the NHL and one of the best defensive teams, so Cross only deepens their defensive workforce. Indeed, the Wings are strong at the blue line but they are heavy on scoring defenseman and Cross will do a solid job staying at home for Detroit.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
It's no surprise that the worst team in the NHL is in selling mode and losing Cross certainly isn't going to turn any fans away. They're putting together a good, young core so the draft pick might come in handy in the rebuilding project.
