PANTHERS GET PENS' JACKMAN

The Florida Panthers acquired defenseman Richard Jackman from the Pittsburgh Penguins for center Petr Taticek.

What does it give the Florida Panthers
Jackman brings another defenseman with scoring ability to the Panthers blueline, though his role is unclear at present time. With Sean Hill, Mike Van Ryn and Steve Montador already on the roster as right-handed shots from the blueline, Jackman may only be a depth player for now. Look for this move to lead to another transaction this summer.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
What does it give Pittsburgh? The Penguins are taking a flyer on a former No. 9 overall selection that has so far done very little in the pro ranks. Taticek may be a total bust, but he could get the chance to play with the Penguins--either this season or next. Otherwise, he may be assigned to the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and see playoff action with the baby Pens.
