THORBURN TO ATLANTA
The Atlanta Thrashers acquired forward Chris Thorburn from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a third-round round pick in 2007.
What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
The Thrashers should use Thorburn more than either the Sabres or Penguins did, and he could wind up playing on the third unit. He has two-way potential but is still largely unproven at the big-league level. He would fit on an energy line when the team is need of a boost. On the Pens, he was a victim of the numbers game, often not finding room on the roster.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins received great value for a player they plucked off the waiver wire last year. Thorburn's role in Pittsburgh was not secure following the acquisition of enforcer Georges Laraque last season, so adding another third-round pick was great strategy. This is a good return.
