BRENT FOR RICHMOND

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired center Tim Brent from the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Danny Richmond.

What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago didn't have room for Richmond on its already deep young blueline, so they made a nice move in getting back a needed center for him here in Brent. The latest in the Blackhawks' recent trend of adding promising young offensive forwards, Brent may eventually become a solid contributor for them. He's still young enough to keep improving.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins have an elite core but they aren't terribly deep at any position other than center. So trading Brent (a pivot) for an intriguing rearguard such as Richmond is a solid depth maneuver. Richmond brings a solid mix of offensive potential and toughness, and while he slumped a bit last season in the AHL he might prove to be a steal here. He has the goods to eventually be a regular for the Pens if he can get back on track.
