SYDOR FOR BOUCHER
The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Darryl Sydor from the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Philippe Boucher.
What does it give the Dallas Stars
Sydor enjoyed the most productive stretch of his career while playing for the Stars (from 1996 to 2003) so maybe a return to Dallas will rejuvenate him. He wasn't playing poorly for the Penguins this season but he also wasn't seeing consistent minutes. The Stars need as much help as they can to turn around their early-season fortunes, and Sydor is a familiar face who may give the team a boost both in the locker room and on the ice.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
Boucher is just over one full season removed from a career-best 51-point campaign, so he should still be a valuable offensive defenseman. His defense has suffered a little the past few years, and at minus-4 so far this season the Stars may have lost some patience with him. Boucher can help out right away on the power play, bringing a veteran presence to the Pens' injury-ridden rearguard corps.
