LEAFS LAND CHRIS PELUSO

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenseman Chris Peluso from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a sixth-round draft pick in 2010.

What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs have a strong connection with the NCAA ranks, so they clearly see a player in Peluso. They'll probably sign him and get his pro career started in the AHL with the Toronto Marlies by the end of 2009-10.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
The 23-year-old was not likely to sign with the Penguins, so GM Ray Shero did well to acquire a future asset for Peluso. The pick is a crapshoot, but it's better than the alternative (nothing).
