SAUVE TO CALGARY

The Calgary Flames acquired goaltender Philippe Sauve from the Colorado Avalanche for a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2006.

What does it give the Calgary Flames
Calgary needs a No. 2 goalie behind Miikka Kiprusoff, so Sauve may be given a chance to win the job at training camp. Considering how little the Flames spent to acquire him, he's definitely worth the gamble.

What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
The Avs needed to make room for promising Slovak Peter Budaj, so they obviously took the best deal possible for Sauve. However, if a conditional pick in the final round of an entry draft is the best deal possible, why did Colorado qualify Sauve in the first place?
