RICHARDSON TO L.A.

The Los Angeles Kings acquired forward Brad Richardson from the Colorado Avalanche for a second-round draft pick in 2008.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings had several early picks in the 2008 draft, so they flipped one of their second-round picks to the Avalanche in order to take a flyer on Richardson--who should contend for a roster spot in September. He's a solid two-way player with upside, but has been largely inconsistent during his time in the NHL.

What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
Richardson was surpassed by other bottom-six forward candidates in Denver last season, so it made sense for the Avs to move him for good value (second-round selection). The Avalanche didn't have a first-round pick in 2008, after having dealt it to Columbus in the Adam Foote deal previously, which may have also been a motivating factor in the decision to deal Richardson.
