MAPLE LEAFS ADD LILES

The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired defenseman John-Michael Liles from the Colorado Avalanche for a second-round draft pick in 2012.

What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Maple Leafs have added a legitimate power-play quarterback in Liles, whose offense will help replace Tomas Kaberle--who was traded to Boston late in 2010-11. He's not a great defender but should complete the Toronto blueline nicely. Giving up an extra second rounder in 2012 was not too big of a price, either.

What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
The rebuilding continues with the Avs, as 30-year-old Liles becomes the latest veteran to be shipped out. He had one more season left on his contract, so clearly Colorado didn't have big plans to re-sign him. They have offensive rearguards to replace Liles, and this deal also provides more impetus for Colorado to select potential all-around defenseman Adam Larsson with the No. 2 pick in the draft.
