BOYNTON FOR MARA
The Phoenix Coyotes acquired defenseman Nick Boynton and a fourth-round draft pick in 2007 from the Boston Bruins for defenseman Paul Mara and a conditional third-round draft pick.
What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
In Boynton, the Coyotes add a third quality right-handed rearguard--joining Zbynek Michalek and Derek Morris. He's more physical than Paul Mara, which fits the Coyotes' style better. Boynton may not produce points as well as Mara, but Phoenix boasts other offensive defensemen to pick up the slack.
What does it give the Boston Bruins
Mara will probably be expected to quarterback the power play in Boston, which likely means the end for veteran unrestricted free agent Brian Leetch's stay with the Bruins. The B's have enough size and strength along the blueline, but could use more puck-moving skill. That's expected to be Mara's job with his new club.
