MASON TO ST. LOUIS
The St. Louis Blues acquired goaltender Chris Mason from the Nashville Predators for a fourth-round draft pick in 2008.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues
In Mason, the Blues add a solid veteran netminder to share time with Manny Legace. The club will not bring back Hannu Toivonen, last year's backup, while prospects Marek Schwarz and Ben Bishop need more development time. The Legace-Mason combination will provide them with that time.
What does it give the Nashville Predators
The Preds were looking to move Mason, last season's No. 1 netminder at the start of the year, in order to be in better position to re-sign unrestricted free agent netminder Dan Ellis--Nashville's No. 1 man by the time the playoffs rolled around. This move should allow for an Ellis re-signing.
