JOKINEN TO PHOENIX
The Phoenix Coyotes acquired center Olli Jokinen from the Florida Panthers for defensemen Keith Ballard and Nick Boynton as well as a second-round draft pick in 2008 (49th overall).
What does it give the Phoenix Coyotes
In Jokinen, the Coyotes add a big pivot with a lot of experience to help with the club's youth up front. He fell out of favor in South Florida, but should be rejuvenated playing under Wayne Gretzky with several quality youngsters. The Coyotes gave up two roster defensemen, so they will need to be active on the free-agent market, but this deal is a clear win for Phoenix.
What does it give the Florida Panthers
The Panthers dealt away their captain, but at least they replenished the back line with two quality defenders in Ballard and Boynton. However, this weakens the Panthers' center situation, so they'll need to make a subsequent move or promote a prospect such as Shawn Matthias or Michael Frolik.
