SHARKS, DUCKS TRADE FOUR

The San Jose Sharks acquired winger Travis Moen and defenseman Kent Huskins from the Anaheim Ducks for center Nick Bonino, goaltender Timo Pielmeier and a conditional draft pick in 2009.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
Moen is the gritty type who can help a team win a Stanley Cup and the Sharks need more toughness, while Huskins is out indefinitely because of a broken right foot. Both of their not-too-cumbersome contracts come off the books at the end of this season (as both are unrestricted free agents) so this is really about renting Moen's toughness and if they can get anything from the solid Huskins the rest of the way it will be a bonus.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
Bonino has enjoyed a great breakthrough season at Boston University, while Pielmeier has been one of the best goalies in the QMJHL this season (playing for Shawinigan). These two prospects won't likely be NHL-bound soon, but they are both starting to look like they can be factors at the highest level. So the Ducks not only drop some salary for the rest of the season, they also pick up some nice long-range depth in the process.
